FOR THOSE OF YOU JUST JOINING US...



Vigil has managed to use the Recruiter machine to summon more heroes to help the Canadian's team! To prevent them being picked off one by one as they arrive, the portal through which they will travel opens in a distant, unoccupied bit of the planet - the swamp you can see in the final panel.

If you have a hero who you want to enter for the Secret War, this is the moment you've been waiting for. If you want to enter you need to supply two things:

1. A reference guide to your character. It needs to include any details which you feel are needed so that someone else reading it can draw your character into a comic to your satisfaction, but information about personality and powers/abilities is a must.

2. A short comic strip or single page which shows your character going through the portal. Ideally your scene should tell us something about your character - for example if the character is a bounty hunter, show them on a mission! You're welcome to draw some scenes showing them after they arrive, interracting with the other new heroes, but don't send them off to the fighting just yet as it will all get too confusing!

You all know the drill by now! The first fifteen people who post on this journal will have their galleries perused by me, and I'll showcase my favourite three deviations here. All fifteen places are now filled!

So, without further ado....

1. One third of a Cranky Octopus! Choosing just three favourites here was impossible and I could easily have chosen another three! But these are the pictures which jumped out at me tonight:

An obvious choice, but the definitive Mime pic in my opinion, which is high praise considering the competition for that role. Bloody brilliant.
Lots of people have drawn my character Vigil, but this is one of my all time favourites.
I have a Firestar obsession. Admitting you have a problem is the first step on the road to recovery... or something!

2. Talented artist with a great unique sketchy style but crippled by a bizarre dwarf obsession!

This AFL fight proves that fine line between genius and insanity!
It's a giant bug! Who doesn't like giant bugs?
Great comic scene - fantastic pacing and a super villain on a unicycle.

3. His muscle girl stuff I find frankly creepy but it takes all sorts to make up the world! Ritualist is a very talented artist and has a real sense of the 'community' here on DA. One thing I'd like to flag up which I won't count as one of my three choices is this: [link] my huge AFL pic which he coloured really well. Must have taken longer than it took to draw!

A great secret wars page. I don't know how he crams so much action, character development and cool ideas and backgrounds into a single page. Love it.

4. I've known James for ages but I think he's only now coming to believe I'm a real person and not an actor paid to impersonate me. (Long story!) Too busy being a ninja to post often enough, but he has some great stuff in his gallery!

I love this Secret Wars piece - the idea that the hero was invited to the War but the Scarab clobbered him and stole his place is great!

5. A real jack of all trades - lots of variety in her gallery!

Great picture from the definitive incarnation of Batman!

6. Virtus creator currently turning out some absolutely brilliant sequential stuff for the Secret Wars!

An early comic strip with some nice imagery, introducing Virtus

The latest Secret Wars page - it has flash back images of villains from the Vigil comic!

7. A new recruit to the Secret Wars and prolific character sketcher!

Some of these work and some don't I think, but it's a great fun idea.

A simple but iconic colour pic of one of my favourite SW good guys.

8. A veteran of two AFL tournaments!

Nice dramatic image of his OC Kamal.
Included largely because I thought it said 'Falafel' behind him at first!

9. Colours and inks a lot of other people's stuff as well as his own art!

Great picture of my favourite Titan!
I like this character design too
It's the creepy bat girl again, along with New Girl!

10. A new recruit to the Secret Wars

I love the colouring and tone of this piece.

11. Has done some wonderful Vigil fanart for me using some kind of computer programme I don't understand!

12. Prolific AFL artist and Banana obsessive! Check out his gallery to see how incredibly his style has improved over the space of a year or so - good stuff! (Although he is completely mad...)

14. Tough to choose from this gallery because there's such a variety of art styles and images to choose from. Impressed with a series of high quality AFL entries (after a late start too!)and great characterisation on Secret Wars.

UPDATE: We're not far away from the launch of the next chapter now! Five pages down and a few more roughed out which will be finished in the next few days or so.
