Vigil Villains: Drax Doomaar

Remember the Vigil Villain competition? NO? Can't say I blame you! It's been sadly neglected while I was focused on Secret Wars, but I'm making a real effort now to finish these pictures of the entries.



This is Drax Doomaar - the creation of the sickeningly talented A military robot which took over the company that created him, Drax now heads up a galaxy-spanning corporation. Here's how Dan described him...

"Seven hundred years from now, on the sixth planet of a red sun….

One in a long line of techorganic Infantry created by mad scientist turned would-be world conqueror Drax Doomaar, this machine was an assembly line fluke, endowed by random chance with a brilliant mind of its own. Realizing that military conquest was for schmos, it secretly disposed of his creator and assumed his identity, claiming he (“Drax" ) had downloaded his mind into a robotic body. The new Drax Doomaar began selling all the war machines the original had produced to the countries they were meant to conquer. His army became a corporation, a boardroom giant that dominated the entire planet in a mere forty years. Without firing a single shot, “Drax Doomaar” found himself ruling the world.

His corporate control of the planet brought unprecedented scientific advancement and political cooperation. The people were, and still are, happier and safer than they’d ever been. But Doomaar’s immortal mechanical mind soon grew bored in a world where the economic war had already been won, and his eyes wandered skyward. He envisioned a production chain stretching between whole solar systems, turning inhabited worlds into factories and the populations into unpaid workers. After all, he had the robot army. Give it a few years, the plants would pay for themselves, and after that he’d be looking at pure profit and unprecedented low prices for the consumers on his own world.

Unfortunately for Doomaar, someone else saw this possibility… someone heavenbent to stop it at any cost! For the first time, this metal-hearted captain of industry faced an opponent he couldn’t pay off, knock off, or put on a contract. For the first time, he faced VIGIL!

Deposing this global CEO will be a trick, though. Despicable as his machinations may be, the eight trillion consumers he provides for love him more than God. And then there’s that army of his…


POWERS, WEAPONS, ET CETERA:

Drax Doomaar possesses an intelligence that surpasses even that of his creator. He is a visionary businessman, a sly negotiator, and a remarkably charming conversationalist, as well as genius inventor.

Constructed with open warfare in mind, Drax is impervious to small arms fire and most explosions. He has multiple built-in weapons systems, including a “telepathic siren” that disrupts organic thought processes (especially debilitating to the telepathically sensitive), although he prefers not to use them, as they are unpleasant reminders that he was created to be a mindless weapon of war. When pressed, he can lift in excess of fifty tons, and is capable of brief bursts flight.

He is constantly surrounded by Draxbots™, independent drones that handle paperwork and wait on important clients. While fragile, their Doomaar Laser Optics™ are still deadly.

For whatever reason, he both drinks and smokes."
